The vills of Gagriyan and Saujiyan in Poonch distt are located in a very remote and economically under developed area. Since long, the local population yearned for affordable and quality education for their children. Their aspirations were duly acknowledged when the Army took on itself the onerous task of construction a primary school. The work on the project started on 26 Feb 2010 and in a short span of six months the school was made fully functional. Empathizing with the popular sentiments of the locals, the Army took over the responsibility of running the school.The Inauguration of Army Goodwill School was a step towards accomplishing this onerous responsibility of running the school.
Inauguration Ceremony. The Army Goodwill School at Gagriyan, Saujiyan was inaugurated by Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy, AVSM, YSM GOC 16 Corps on 21 Oct 2010. GOC 25 Inf Div, Cdr 93 Inf Bde and Mr Kuldeep Khujaria, DC Poonch graced the occasion. All local and civilian dignatries were invited for the inauguration ceremony. These included, the village Sarpanches, Maulvis, Numberdars, VDC Members, Ex-MLAs and prominent citizens of Gagriyan and Saujiyan. The response of the people was overwhelming and very encouraging. The villagers presented turbans and shawls to the Corps Cdr and GOC 25 Inf Div, Cdr 93 Inf Bde and DC, Poonch as a gesture of gratitude.
Constr of AGS Gagriyan-Saujiyan running under Sadn project fy 2009-10. Initiated by 8 MAHAR on land donated by Mr. Ali Mohd to State Govt. School spread over 3 Kanals and funded under op sadn .The project started on 26 Feb 2010 and was fully functional from 01 Aug 2010 and base on J & K Board. School was inaugurated by GOC, 16 Corps on 21 Oct 2010. School is run from 01 Apr to 31 Dec (9 Months) has become a beacon in this remote and under developed area. More than 1000 students benefited from Army Goodwill School Gagriyan-Saujiyan till date.
